Explore the fascinating stories of Lorain County’s past in the graceful rooms of the Horace Starr House, home to the Lorain County History Center. This Italianate-style mansion, completed in 1857, is the oldest remaining residence on Elyria’s Washington Avenue. The History Center has exhibit galleries, a small bookstore, and a research library (appointments required for all research; click here for more information). All floors are accessible by elevator.
Admission is FREE for all self-guided visitors. Donations are appreciated.

The Hickories

Learn about Arthur Garford, the man who invented the padded bicycle seat, and see this beautiful house built for the Garford family. Guided tours take approximately 45 minutes and require the ability to climb stairs.
Tours are offered Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 1:00 PM. Tours must be booked in advance. Other times may be available by appointment. Click the “Book a Tour” button to reserve your spot!
Tour Fees: Adults $5; Students & Ages 18 – 6 $3, Under 6 FREE; LCHS Members FREE.
